In the world of Tres Navarre, a former English professor turned private investigator, business has taken a sharp turn for the worse. While chasing after bail jumpers, cheating spouses, and workmen's comp cases may not be the most glamorous work for a PI, it at least pays the bills. However, things take a dangerous turn when Navarre is tasked with tracking down the notorious killer known as Will "the Ghost" Stirman. Stirman has just escaped from Floresville State Penitentiary with a group of violent criminals, causing panic both inside and outside of the prison walls. Navarre's boss and mentor, Erainya Manos, is particularly worried as her late husband and rival PI, Sam Barrera, were the ones responsible for putting Stirman behind bars. Now that her husband is gone, Erainya fears that Stirman will seek revenge against her and her adopted son. Navarre's gut tells him that there is more to this case than meets the eye, but Erainya refuses to share any information. Meanwhile, Sam Barrera seems to be losing himself in a haze of denial, unable to face the truth about Stirman. This leaves Navarre to unravel a twisted web of greed, vigilantism, and murder, where the line between guilt and innocence is razor-thin. As Stirman and his gang make their way towards San Antonio's Southtown, leaving a trail of brutal violence in their wake, Navarre must race against time to uncover the truth before it's too late. Southtown may soon become a living hell, thanks to Stirman's reign of terror.
